Under the Family Law Act 1975, parental responsibility for a child may be extinguished by adoption.
The court may need to give permission before you are eligible to enter adoption proceedings.
Once the court gives permission, a parent’s responsibility to the child ends, to whatever extent it existed beforehand, after the adoption by an authorised adopting parent.
